Securing Your Family in Today's Digital World

Technology is a part of all of our daily lives, and we want families around the world to feel safe and comfortable making the most of it.

One of the core tenets we teach in both the SANS MGT433 Security Awareness and MGT521 Security Culture courses is one of the most effective ways to engage and secure people is focus on how they personally benefit. Think of it this way. We often use the same technologies at both home and at work, as a result we also face the same risks both at home and at work (especially in today’s COVID-19 Work From Home world). As such, quite often one of the most effective ways to secure your workforce is to provide training focused on how to secure themselves at home. Not only is your workforce far more likely to engage and listen knowing they personally benefit, but they are far more likely to change behavior, and those behaviors cross over to work. Behaviors like using strong passwords, ensuring systems and apps are updated and current, and how to spot and stop all the nefarious phishing email, text messaging or phone call attacks that are constantly bombarding us.

We have always been a big believer of supporting the personal approach to cybersecurity, from the Security Awareness training we create to free OUCH Security Awareness newsletter we publish every month. That is why for this October we have created a suite of free training materials on how families can secure themselves in today’s digital world. Led by SANS Senior Instructor and Faculty Fellow and world-renowned forensics expert and mom of two, Heather Mahalik, #SecureTheFamily walks families through how to secure not only their home environments, but also how to ensure kids can make the most of technology safely and securely. Security Awareness officers and organizations are welcome to leverage this deployment kit as part of their own awareness programs, while individuals and families are encouraged to use it for personal use.

Technology is a part of all of our daily lives, and we want families around the world to feel safe and comfortable making the most of it.
